Of brahmins (brāhmaṇas), warriors (kṣatriyas), and merchants (vaiśyas), and of the laborers (śūdras), O Scorcher of foes (Parantapa), The actions (karmāṇi) are divided, by the qualities (guṇas) born of their own nature (svabhāva).
The actions of priests, warriors, commoners, and servants are apportioned by qualities born of their intrinsic being.
(41) To Brahmans, princes, peasants-and-artisans, and serfs works have been variously assigned by [these] constituents, and they arise from the nature of things as they are.
18.41 O scorcher of enemies, the duties of the Brāhmaṇas, the Kṣatriyas and the Vaiśyās, as also of the Śūdras have been fully classified according to the guṇas born from Nature.
