Now hear from Me the threefold happiness (sukha), O best of the Bharatas (Bharatarṣabha). That in which one rejoices by practice (abhyāsa), and reaches the end of sorrow;
Arjuna, now hear about joy, the three ways of finding delight through practice that brings an end to suffering.
(36) Threefold too is pleasure: Arjuna, hear this now from Me. [That pleasure] which a man enjoys after much effort [spent], making an end thereby of suffering,
18.36 Now hear from Me, O scion of the Bhārata dynasty, as regards the three kinds of joy: That in which one delights owing to habit, and certainly attains the cessation of sorrows; [S. and S.S. take the second line of this verse along with the next verse referring to sāttvika happiness.-Tr.]
18.36 Now hear from Me, O Arjuna, the threefold division of pleasure... that in which a man rejoices by long practice and in which he comes to the end of pain;
18.36 And now hear from Me, O Arjuna, of the threefold pleasure, in which one rejoices by practice and surely comes to the end of pain.
