But the resolve (dhṛti) by which one sustains duty (dharma), desire (kāma), and wealth (artha), O Arjuna, Desiring the fruit out of attachment (prasaṅga), that resolve, O son of Pritha (Pārtha), is of passion (rājasī).
When it sustains with attachment duty, desire, and wealth, craving their fruits, resolve is passionate.
(34) But the constancy by which a man holds fast [in balance] pleasure, self-interest, and righteousness, yet clings to them, desirous of their fruits, is constancy in Passion's way.
18.34 But, O Pārtha, the firmness with which one holds on to righteousness, covetable things and wealth, being desirous of their fruits as the occasion for each arises, that firmness is born of rajas.
18.34 That Dhṛti, O Arjuna, by which one, who is desirous of fruits, longs for them with intense attachment, and holds fast to duty, desire and wealth --- that Dhṛti is Rajasika.
18.34 But that, O Arjuna, by which, on account of attachment and desire for reward, one holds fast to Dharma (duty), enjoyment of pleasures and earning of wealth -- that firmness, O Arjuna, is Rajasic (passionate).
