Some wise men (manīṣiṇaḥ) declare that action (karma) should be abandoned as a fault (doṣavat), And others that the actions (karma) of sacrifice (yajña), charity (dāna), and austerity (tapas), should not be abandoned.
Some wise men say all action is flawed and must be relinquished; others say action in sacrifice, charity, and penance must not be relinquished.
(3) ‘[All] works must be surrendered, for [works themselves] are tainted with defect:' so say some of the wise; but others say that [works of] sacrifice, the gift of alms, and works of penance are not to be surrendered.
18.3 Some learned persons say that action, beset with evil (as it is), should be given up, and others (say) that the practice of sacrifice, charity and austerity should not be given up.
