But that which is attached to one single effect as if it were all, without reason, Devoid of truth (atattvārthavat) and narrow, that is declared to be of darkness (tāmasa).
But knowledge that clings to a single thing as if it were the whole, limited, lacking a sense of reality, is known for its dark inertia.
(22) But that [kind of knowledge] which sticks to one effect as if it were all,—irrational, not bothering about the Real as the [true] object [of all knowledge, thinking of it as] finite,—this [knowledge] belongs to Darkness. So is it laid down.
18.22 But that (knowledge) is said to be born of tamas which is confined to one form as though it were all, which is irrational, not concern with truth and trivial.
18.22 But that knowledge is declared to be Tamasika which clings to one single act as if it were the whole, which is not founded on reason, and which is untrue and insignificant.
