The good (sāttvikāḥ) sacrifice to the gods; the passionate (rājasāḥ) to the Yakshas and Rakshasas; And others sacrifice to the spirits of the dead (pretān) and the multitudes of ghosts (bhūta), the people of darkness (tāmasāḥ).
Men of lucidity sacrifice to the gods; men of passion, to spirits and demons; the others, men of dark inertia, sacrifice to corpses and to ghosts.
(4) To the gods do men of Goodness offer sacrifice, to sprites and monsters men of Passion, to disembodied spirits and the assembled spirits of the dead the others,—men of Darkness,—offer sacrifice.
17.4 Those having the sattva quality worship the gods; those having rajas, the demigods and ogres; and other people possessed of tamas worship ghosts and the hosts of spirits.
17.4 The Sāttvika types worship the gods. The Rajasa types worship Yakṣas and Rakṣasas. And the others, the Tamasa types, worship the departed ancestors and hosts of Bhūtas.
17.4 The Sattvic or the pure men worship the gods; the Rajasic or the passionate worship the Yakṣas and the Rakṣasas; the others (the Tamasic or the deluded people) worship the ghosts and the hosts of the nature-spirits.
