Whatever is offered, given, performed as austerity (tapas), or done without faith (aśraddhayā), It is called "Asat" (unreal), O son of Pritha (Pārtha); it is not for the next world, nor here.
But oblation, charity, and penance offered without faith are called ASAT, for they have no reality here or in the world after death.
(28) Whatever offering is made in unbelief, whatever given, whatever act of penance undertaken, whatever done,—of that is said asat, 'It is not:' for naught it is in this world or the next.
17.28 O son of Pṛthā, whatever is offered in sacrifice and given in charity, as also whatever austerity is undertaken or whatever is done without, faith, is said to be of no avail. And it is of no consequence after death, nor here.
17.28 Whatever offering or gift is made, whatever austerity is practiced and whatever action is performed without faith, that is called Asat, O Arjuna. It is naught here or hereafter.
