But that which is given for the sake of a return service, or again aiming at the fruit, And given reluctantly (parikliṣṭam), that charity (dāna) is remembered as of passion (rājasa).
But charity given reluctantly, to secure some service in return or to gain a future reward, is remembered as passionate.
(21) But [alms] given in expectation of favors in return, or for the sake of fruits [to be reaped] hereafter, [alms given] too against the grain,—this is culled alms [given] in Passion's way.
17.21 But the gift which is given expecting reciprocation, or again, with a desire for its result, and which is given grudgingly,- that is considered to be born of rajas.
17.21 But that which is given as a consideration for something received or in expectation of future reward, or grudgingly, is called Rajasika gift.
17.21 And, that gift which is given with a view to receive something in return, or looking for a reward, or reluctantly, is held to be Rajasic.
