A man freed from these, O son of Kunti (Kaunteya), from the three gates of darkness (tamas), Practices what is best for the self (ātman), and from there goes to the supreme goal.
Released through these three gates of darkness, Arjuna, a man elevates the self and ascends to the highest way.
(22) When once a man is freed from these three gates of darkness, then can he work for [his] self's salvation, thence tread the highest way.
16.22 O son of Kuntī, a person who is free from these three doors to darkness strives for the good of the soul. Thereby he attains the highest Goal.
16.22 One who has been released from these threefold gates of darkness, O Arjuna, works for the good of the self. Hence he reaches the supreme state.
16.22 A man who is liberated from these three gates to darkness, O Arjuna, practices what is good for him and thus goes to the Supreme Goal.
