He who, having cast aside the rules of the scriptures (śāstra), acts under the impulse of desire (kāma), Does not attain perfection (siddhi), nor happiness (sukha), nor the supreme goal.
If he rejects norms of tradition and lives to fulfill his desires, he does not reach perfection or happiness or the highest way.
(23) Whoso forsakes the ordinance of Scripture and lives at the whim of his own desires, wins not perfection, [finds] no comfort, [treads] not the highest way.
16.23 Ignoring the precept of the scriptures, he who acts under the impulsion of passion,-he does not attain perfection, nor happiness, nor the supreme Goal.
16.23 He who, abandoning the injunctions of the Śāstras, acts under the influence of desire, attains neither perfection nor pleasure, nor the supreme state.
