ऊध्र्वं गच्छन्ति सत्त्वस्था मध्ये तिष्ठन्ति राजसाः। जघन्यगुणवृत्तिस्था अधो गच्छन्ति तामसाः ॥14.18॥
14.18 ūrdhvaṃ gacchanti sattvasthā madhye tiṣṭhanti rājasāḥ jaghanyaguṇavṛttasthā adho gacchanti tāmasāḥ

Those abiding in goodness (sattva) go upwards; the passionate (rājasāḥ) stand in the middle. Abiding in the activities of the lowest quality, those of darkness (tāmasāḥ) go downwards.
