Of letters I am the letter A; and of compounds, the dual (dvandva). I alone am imperishable time (kāla); I am the ordainer (dhātā) facing in all directions.
I am the vowel a of the syllabary, the pairing of words in a compound; I am indestructible time, the creator facing everywhere at once.
(33) Among the letters of the alphabet I am 'A', among grammatical compounds the dvandva. Truly I am imperishable Time, I, the Ordainer, with face turned every way.
10.33 Of the letters I am the letter a, and of the group of compound words I am (the compound called) Dvandva. [Dvandva: A compound of two or more words which, if not compounded, would stand in the same case and be connected by the conjunction 'and'.-Tr.] I Myself am the infinite time; I am the Dispenser with faces everywhere.
