For I do not see what would drive away from me The sorrow that dries up the senses, Even having obtained on earth an unrivaled, prosperous Kingdom, or even lordship over the gods.

Stoller MillerLiterary

I see nothing that could drive away the grief that withers my senses; even if I won kingdoms of unrivaled wealth on earth and sovereignty over gods.

ZaehnerJesuit

(8) For I cannot see what could dispel my grief, [this] parching of the senses, not though on earth I were to win a prosperous, unrivalled empire or sovereignty over the gods themselves. Sañjaya said:

2.8 Because, I do not see that which can, even after acquiring on this earth a prosperous kingdom free from enemies and even sovereignty over the gods, remove my sorrow (which is) blasting the senses.

AdidevanandaVishishtadvaita

2.8 Even if I should win unchallenged sovereignty of a prosperous earth or even the kingdom on lordship over the Devas, I do not feel that it would dispel the grief than withers up my senses.

SivanandaVedanta

2.8 I do not see that it would remove this sorrow that burns up my senses, even if I should attain prosperous and unrivalled dominion on earth or lordship over the gods.
