But if you will not engage in this Battle enjoined by duty (dharma), Then having abandoned your own duty (svadharma) and glory, You will incur sin (pāpa).
If you fail to wage this war of sacred duty, you will abandon your own duty and fame only to gain evil.
(33) But if you will not wage this war prescribed by [your caste-]duty, then, by casting off both duty and honor, you will bring evil on yourself.
2.33 On the other hand, if you will not fight this righteous battle, then, forsaking your own duty and fame, you will incur sin.
2.33 But if you do not fight this righteous war, you will be turning away from your duty and honored position, and will be incurring sin.
