Disciplined with purified understanding (buddhi), and controlling the self (ātman) with resolve (dhṛti), Having abandoned the objects of the senses beginning with sound, and casting aside passion (rāga) and aversion (dveṣa);
Armed with his purified understanding, subduing the self with resolve, relinquishing sensuous objects, avoiding attraction and hatred;
(51) Let a man be integrated by his soul [now] cleansed, let him restrain [him]self with constancy, abandon objects of sense,—sound and all the rest,—passion and hate let him cast out;
18.51 Being endowed with a pure intellect, and controlling oneself with fortitude, rejecting the objects-beginning from sound [Sound, touch, form and color, taste and smell.-Tr.], and eliminating attachment and hatred;
18.51 Endowed by a purified understanding, subduing the mind by steadiness, relinquishing sound and other objects of the senses and casting aside love and hate;
18.51 Endowed with a pure intellect, controlling the self by firmness, relinquishing sound and other objects and abandoning attraction and hatred.
