Hear the threefold division of understanding (buddhi) and of resolve (dhṛti) according to the qualities (guṇas), Declared completely and distinctly, O Winner of wealth (Dhanañjaya).
Listen as I tell you without reserve about understanding and resolve, each in three aspects, according to the qualities of nature.
(29) Divided threefold too are intellect and constancy according to the constituents. Listen [to Me, for I shall] tell it forth in all its many forms, omitting nothing.
18.29 O Dhanañjaya, listen to the classification of the intellect as also of fortitude, which is threefold according to the guṇas, while it is being stated elaborately and severally.
18.29 Hear now, the threefold division of Buddhi (reason) and Dhṛti (fortitude), O Arjuna, according to the Guṇas, fully and severally to be set forth.
