Self-conceited, stubborn, filled with the pride and arrogance of wealth, They perform sacrifices in name only, with hypocrisy, disregarding the scriptural rules (avidhipūrvakam).

(17) Puffed up with self-conceit, unbending, maddened by their pride in wealth, they offer sacrifices that are but sacrifice in name and not in the way prescribed, the hypocrites!
16.17 Self-conceited, haughty, filled with pride and intoxication of wealth, they perform sacrifices which are so in name only, with ostentation and regardless of the injunctions.
