There are these two Persons (puruṣau) in the world, the perishable and the imperishable (akṣara) as well. The perishable is all beings; the immovable (kūṭastha) is called the imperishable.
There is a double spirit of man in the world, transient and eternal— transient in all creatures, eternal at the summit of existence.
(16) In the world there are these two persons, perishable the one, Imperishable the other: the 'perishable' is all contingent beings, the 'Imperishable' they call the 'sublime, aloof (kūṭastha)'.
