But know that darkness (tamas) is born of ignorance (ajñāna), the deluder of all embodied ones (dehinām). By negligence, laziness, and sleep, it binds fast, O descendant of Bharata (Bhārata).
Know dark inertia born of ignorance as the delusion of every embodied self; it binds one with negligence, indolence, and sleep, Arjuna.
(8) But from ignorance is Darkness born: mark [this] well. All embodied [selves] it leads astray. With fecklessness and sloth and sleepiness it binds.
14.8 On the other hand, know tamas, which deludes all embodied beings, to be born of ignorance. O scion of the Bhārata dynasty, that binds through inadvertence, laziness and sleep.
